New Main Entrance
A new entrance for a busy hospital campus.
John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital engaged an A/E team for upgrades to the hospital entrance. The goal of the project was to create new main entrance at the hospital's existing south entry that would improve patient entry, drop-off, pick-up, and wayfinding. The project provided a new entrance canopy, reworked traffic flow, and updated landscaping. Insight provided power and low voltage systems design for the project.
Cross-discipline coordination was key to the project's success. Design of the electrical system was coordinated closely with the Architect, structural engineer, and civil engineer to ensure appropriate loads for canopy and site lighting. Input from the Owner and facility staff informed the design and scheduling of security cameras in the renovated areas.
One key requirement was that construction of the project could not impact daily operations of the busy healthcare campus. The design team developed a detailed phasing plan that ensured the hospital could remain fully operational and accessible during construction.
